MARY HENDERSON TOASTS THE ROTARY CLUB OF ROYAL LEAMINGTON SPA
 
 
The Club is in Rotary District 1060 and was chartered on 17 October 1925. Its thirty (30) member are led by President Michael Heath. They currently meet by Zoom at 12.30pm on the second and fourth Tuesd ay of the month and when possible, in person at the Angel Hotel, Leamington Spa. In the last couple of years the club has: Raised £16,700 and supported other local Rotary clubs with their fundraising efforts; Delivered a series of fun and pleasurable events for the elderly, disabled or disadvantaged members of the community; Organised and managed the annual Leamington Spa Community Spirit Awards ceremony; Helped provide sheltered accommodation and living necessities for victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Caribbean; Contributed to the Rotary International efforts to eradicate Polio worldwide by raising awareness locally of the campaign; Donated to local Leamington Food banks during Covid-19.
 
Their programme of events include the following series of events for the elderly, disabled or disadvantaged members of the community:  a boat trip on the river at Stratford; a concert and tea in the Octagon at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Lillington; a visit to the house and gardens at Charlecote, followed by tea; holidays for the elderly at Blackpool;  in association with the local Helping Hands initiative we organise Christmas Boxes for children

 Their Community Action and regular events include: Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk in Leamington;  donated to “Singing for the Brain” session at Brunswick Healthy Living Centre;  agreed to support the Warwickshire Climate Alliance’s proposal for a schools art competition drawing attention to global warming and climate change; Father Christmas in his sleigh in the Royal Priors Shopping Centre; Christmas Trees of Light in remembrance of loved ones, in Leamington and Whitnash; A Taste of Leamington, a moveable feast around local independent restaurants in the town; An eBay site for the sale of donated items; Cars At The Spa –lots of Classic cars and vehicles of special interest – displayed all day in The Pump Room Gardens, complete with almost non-stop entertainment; An annual charity dinner with auction.
