Rotary in WA Driver Education (RWADE)

As the name Rotary in WA Driver Education (RWADE) suggests, this project is adopted by Rotary Clubs in both Districts 9455 and 9465 .

It is the strong preference of WA Police, Road Safety Commission, and other supporting organisations that a common approach across WA be implemented and that it be subject to continuous improvement.

The one day course for ideally 180 students (not less than 120 and not more than 230) (typically Year 10 ) is conducted at Foodbank or another suitable location approved by the Joint RWADE Committee.

Interact

Interact the Rotary program for youth of secondary school age (12 – 18 years).

Sponsored by Rotary and run by youth to promote international and local community service.

This is about youth working within the values of Rotary to achieve goals they set. Interact clubs can be sponsored by one or more Rotary clubs that provide support, mentoring and guidance, however Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.

Rotaract

Rotaract is a Rotary Sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 – 30 years.

Rotaract clubs are usually community based or university based and are sponsored by a local Rotary Club making them true ‘partners in service’ and key members of the Rotary Family.

Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only expand their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE)

The Rotary Youth Exchange Program (RYE) provides for the selection and sponsorship of students in the 15 -18 year age group to travel to another country to spend twelve months attending a secondary school and living with host families in that country.

Rotary Youth Exchange ( RYE) students must be at least 15 years and have not yet turned 19 years on the date of departure from Australia which is generally mid-January of each year.

Short Term Exchange Program (STEP)

Rotary Short Term Exchange presents opportunities for students to advance their knowledge and world understanding by allowing them to exchange in a different country. Participants will live with host families in their selected country for four to eight weeks normally in summer, under the sponsorship of their local Rotary Club.

Handicamp

Handicamp provides an opportunity for young people with a disability, between the ages of 18-35, to attend a one week live-in camp. Further information is available on the web at www.handicamp.org.au.

Handicamp is held in January

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to

• Demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth

• Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders

• Encourage leadership of youth by youth

• Recognise publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities

RYLA is a intensive eight day live-in program for 18-28 year old’s who have the potential to be leaders within their organization or community or workplace.

RYLA is held in January each year

Rotary Program of Enrichment (RYPEN)

RYPEN is for young people between the ages of 14-17 years of age. Through a weekend seminar, RYPEN creates an awareness of the teens own place and responsibility in society as well as offering the practical skills needed to exist in society.

RYPEN is held twice a year in May and September.

 National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)

The National Youth Science Forum is a two-week program for students moving into Year 12 who are thinking about a career in science, engineering and technology. The forum is fully residential and takes place in January at the Australian National University Canberra and Queensland University of Technology Brisbane. The program is intensive with little time for outside activities except for meeting those people already in the program. The most important aspect coming from the NYSF is a network of friends, colleagues and support groups throughout Australia which will be of value to participants for the whole of their lives.

NYSF is held in January

The Conoco Phillips Science Experience A fun 3 or 4 days of science activities held at several universities in WA for Year 9 and 10 students. Each program is designed to provide students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists who love their work.
