On Monday evening we were delighted to have Neelam Badve back with us. She has been proposed for membership and we expect to induct her very soon. Also, Anna will be back next week to tell us all about her Sydney adventure.
The meeting was dedicated to the Willetton Senior High School (WSHS) Awards. Many family members were there to witness the awards along with the WSHS Principal, Chris Booth, and key members of the teaching staff, KimberleyAtkinson, Andrea Wheeler, Debra Lievense, Marie Munro and the Executive Director of the WSHS Board, Helen Wong.
The WSHS Awards are an annual event to recognise one outstanding teacher and the achievements of four students from each of Years 10 and 11. Our Club Director of Youth Service, Simon Cubitt, chaired the event with his usual aplomb and I thank him sincerely for doing so. See our full report below.
Our first very pleasant duty however was to Award a Paul Harris Fellowship to Helen Wong for her meritorious and outstanding community and vocational service. This award is the highest a Club can give to a member of the community. Helen is a most deserving recipient and we congratulate and salute her for her dedication, influence and multiple achievements at WSHS on which we report more fully below.
The Club has been involved with WSHS for many years and in recognition of this, Principal Chris Booth presented us with a Certificate of Appreciation. He expressed his heartfelt thanks for the club's enduring support and contribution to the school and wider community, as well as its tireless efforts to raise the funds necessary to support the many programs on offer. He said that these programs have enriched the students' education, community spirit and leadership potential and that the annual awards recognise their strong achievements and encourage continued endeavour. Also, the outstanding teacher award has enabled teachers who consistently go the extra mile in their work, to be recognised.
And finally, our Club Director for Youth Service, Simon Cubitt, needs the help of five (5) chaperones on each day of the Rotary WA Driver Education (RWADE) course being held on 29 and 30 November, for the six participating groups of about twenty five (25) students each. A teacher will accompany each group and be responsible for discipline. If you can help, please contact Simon on 0407 383 324.
