At our meeting on 13 May 2019 we were without our speaker Noel Galopin. Noel was to have given a Thumb Nail Sketch. However he had to apologise and stay at his home to protect it from a fire raging nearby. Just to be sure we believed him he sent us the image below. We haven't heard anything since so must assume the fire was successfully extinguished. We sure hope so.
But we did get some very good news. After being vacant for sometime the role of President Elect for 2019/20 has now been filled by none other than founding member, Ian Ross.
We are very grateful Ian has agreed to take on the role but given his numerous other commitments he will be relying upon all of us to spread the load. Ian has indicated that he would like to see Club Assemblies re-instituted (up to two each year) and also once a month, instead of a guest speaker, use the time for committee meetings followed by a short presentation from one of the Directors. Ian's Changeover Night will be held at the Willow Ponds Reception Centre on 29 June 2019.
Also on 13 May 2019 our exchange student Anna Longlune and Club Director of Youth Service, Simon Cubitt, were off swanning around at the Government House reception for all Exchange students in WA; and this week, 20 May 2019, Anna with her her host parents Emma and Kane Kake in attendance, treated us to a presentation on the North West Safari which she did with her fellow exchange students from District 9465. To see her presentation Click here. If it and her accompanying talk are anything to go by, Anna really enjoyed the adventure. She's pictured below being thanked by Steve Genoni.
Simon and Anna also featured large along with Glenn Trim, Bob Doerksen and Greg Hamilton helping the WSHS Interact Club sell "democracy sausages" at the polling station set up at the school on 18 May 2019. While the day wasn't the best for some, it certainly was for the Interact members who raised $746.80 for their Good Works.

Club Director of Community Service, Ashley West, has heard from Eileen Jones, that, subject to District approval, her youngest grand daughter will be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Karrinyup to attend the 2020 National Youth Science Forum (NYSF). He has also confirmed that: Tree planting with the City of Canning will be on 7 July 2019 and most likely at Portcullis Reserve in Willetton. Large trees are to be installed so only about ten (10) volunteers from the Club will be required; and that the $5,000 budgeted for Rotary Residential College has been transferred and will to be used to upgrade air conditioning to Recreational Room.
Professor, Doctor Tele Tan from the Autism Academy For Software Quality Assurance (AASQA) will be our guest speaker on 17 June 2019. He'll update us on this very successful program at WSHS through which one graduate became the youngest accredited software assurer and is employed by Bankwest.
Luke Jackson who was a recipient at the Willetton Senior High School (WSHS) Awards last November. has gone on to achieve as a ruckman (all 197cm's of him) with the East Fremantle Under 18's football team and has now been nominated as one of the ten to watch in the NAB 2019 AFL Draft. The Club has two rowers, Stuart Diggins and Greg Vines who rise well before most of us during the week to train on the Canning River. Stuart will be competing in the Australian Masters Rowing Championships at the international-standard Champion Lakes Regatta Centre from 22 May to 25 May 2019. It'll be quite a spectacle so get along to see it and cheer Stuart on, if you can.
In the meantime our Entertainment Book fund raiser is in full swing. I have hard copies for sale, but if you prefer the electronoic version Click here
