Rotary's heart and soul lies in it's Clubs, but like every other major worldwide operation it requires an overarching organisation to administer and coordinate it's international, national and local activities; and do so in accordance with its Constitution, By Laws and State and Federal laws. The responsibility for all of this is vested in the Rotary District (in our case District 9465). All office holders are drawn from the District's Clubs and in this, our Club has punched well above it's weight for many years. For example, we have supplied a Director of the District Youth Committee; a Chair of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) Grants committee; Committee members for Youth and the Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS); District Representatives for Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) and Australian Rotary Health (ARH); the Chairs and committees for two District Conferences; a District Secretary; a District Wenbmaster; Assistant Governors and most importantly the 2013-2014 District Governor, the late and highly regarded Rotarian Erwin Biemel.(pictured below)

To recognise Erwin's extraordinary contribution to Rotary and District 9465 the District Board decided to create "The Erwin" Award to be given to one District member each year who exemplifies the strength of the "Rotary idea" founded on  service to Rotary in its many forms. So we were delighted when we learned that Club member David Honeychurch would be the inaugural recipient. The award was presented to him at our meeting on Monday 27 July 2020 by Immediate Past District Governor Wayne Milnes and in the presence of Erwin's children, Anton & Fiona. Also in conjunction with The Erwin, $500 has been donated to TRF Annual Fund by the District on the Club's behalf.

On the same night our esteemed Past District Governor (PDG) Pushpa Pushpalingam (who joined us from the Rotary Club of Cannington in June 2016) was recognised for his continuing outstanding service as the Chair of District Rotary Foundation Grants committee. Pushpa has had a long and distinguished career which includes but is certainly not limited to his extensive TRF work and his a pivotal role in the resounding success of PDG Erwin's Ethiopian Project to train disadvantaged youth in hospitality.
