At our meeting on 6 May 2019 we had two special guests, Paul Bevis and Martin (Aka Marty) Murray; and one unexpected but welcome guest, past member of the Rotary Club of Applecross, Steven Robertson. Paul was accompanied by his wife Julie Cooper and daughter Rachel; and Marty by his wife Cara and their children Jenna, Keeley and Alec.

Paul and Marty were there receive a Pride of Workmanship Award arranged by the Club Director of Vocational Service, Kevin Baruffi. Vocational Service is the first Avenue through which Rotarians draw upon their professional and workplace experience to serve others while always observing high ethical standards. This involves such things as the Rotary Four Way Test Speech Contest for Year 10 students; Literacy Programmes such as Read, Write Now; Community Awards such as the Shine On Award to recognise outstanding service by a person with a disability; and for Vocational Excellence such as the Pride Of Workmanship Award.

Paul is the owner of Willetton Tyrepower and Marty owns Marty's Gourmet Restaurant in Willetton. Over the years both have gone well above and beyond to provide the very best to all their customers. Paul puts tyres on wheels and Marty puts tyres on middles!! Both are very deserving recipients of the Pride Of Workmanship Award. They are great contributors to the local community and got to where they are today through hard work, dedication, perseverance, the support of their families and an unwavering commitment to provide excellent products and service. MEET MARTIN (AKA MARTY) MURRAY OWNER OPERATOR  OF MARTY'S GOURMET RESTAURANT WILLETTON

Martin (AKA Marty) Murray was born on Christmas Island in 1965 and completed his early schooling on the island. There were limits to the schooling available so his family moved to and settled in Perth where Marty attended Booragoon Primary School and Applecross High. At the tender age of fourteen (14) he decided to pursue a career as a commercial chef. To do this he attended the Fremantle College of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) to complete a three (3) year diploma in commercial cookery. In the first year of his apprenticeship he worked for Mustard Catering; then for the next three years in the fine dining French restaurant, Room With A View. By 1985 at the age of eighteen (18), he was fully qualified. Since then his thirty nine (39) year career has taken him all around the country and far beyond. His culinary repertoire is vast and as he says: "You never stop learning."

A FEW SENIOR'S MOMENTS TO REFLECT ON
Shangrala's Wisdom Of Peanuts

SOME EXERCISE- I felt like my body had got totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour.  But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.

STILL DRIVING-I've sure got older! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts, have poor circulation, can't remember if I'm 85 or 92, have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver's license.

THE SENIORS CARD-
Question:        Why don't retirees mind being called Seniors?
Answer:        The term comes with a 10% discount.

THE LAST WORD ON RETIREMENT-
Question:        What is the common term for someone who enjoys work and refuses to retire?
Answer:        NUTS!
