We have been fortunate over the years to have a wide range and good mix of speakers and Director of Club Service, Mary Henderson, is continuing that good work; not just for members, but also for partners who are most welcome to attend when the speaker's topic is of interest. For our guest speaker, Lorna Cook, from chemo@home we were delighted to welcome along partners Jill Cubitt, Liz Doerksen and Sharyn Ibbitson, to hear from her. We report on Lorna's presentation below.

From Left. Liz Doerksen, Jill Cubitt, Lorna Cook and Mary Henderson

On 30 October 2017 a representative from Breast Screen WA is coming to provide an update on the services they provide. Other than members, anyone wishing to attend needs to register by no later than this Friday 27 October 2017. To do so CLICK here.

It was also a pleasure to see Gerry Holmes back after his trip down South with his son-in-law, Paul Todd. Gerry will shortly be returning to the UK and we wish him a safe journey.

Vale Alan Raphael. We learnt during the week that Jane Lowe's father had passed away and we express our sincere condolences to Jane and her family. Alan  was a dentist by profession and a long standing and well regarded member of the Rotary Club of West Perth.

Cole is back with Maureen and me, after spending the weekend in Rockingham with Simon and Jill Cubitt. We were all pleased to hear that Cole enjoyed being with both families and flatteringly described us as "fun and interesting" people, adding that Simon was like a grandfather! (a very young one of course).

Thank you to all the members who attended Carol Biemel's funeral and afterwards at home with Erwin and family. It meant a lot to them. The funeral was a sad occasion, but also a very special one under the stewardship of civil celebrant, Kenneth Booth.

As I reported last week, the wine tasting night at La Vigna was very successful and I thank Ashley West, ably assisted by Wayne Hand, for organising it. Ashley has sent out the order forms and I urge everyone to support this important fund raiser. The wines are all of great quality and well priced,

You'll recall that we were investigating the possibility of a combined tree planting with the Rotary Club of Rossmoyne. It has now been decided that we will each go it alone with the support of the City of Canning. This will be in the cooler months next year.

It has turned out that it won't now be possible to have our Community Information Night on 13 November 2017 so we've decided to defer it until to the second half of the Rotary year.  Nevertheless, to succeed we need everyone's help. So please remember to provide Steve Pusey with the names of people who you think would benefit from attending and might also at some stage, consider becoming a member.

Greg Delfs is currently undergoing some experimental treatment and we wish him well with that. In the meantime he has kindly donated the paint and material needed for the makeover of Danny Harrison's home under Simon Cubitt's watchful eye. It's expected to take two days to complete, the first being this coming Thursday, 26 October.

Although Parry Kahlon was not successful in his tilt to gain a seat on Council, we congratulate him on his effort to do so.

The Board will be meeting on 25 October at Secretary John's home; and on Monday 13 November 2017 we will hold our Annual General Meeting. Amongst other things, we will elect the Club office bearers for 2018-2019. If you are able to serve, please do nominate with Secretary John. In particular, we need a President Elect.

Before that there's the "End Polio" fund raising movie night on Wednesday 8 November featuring "Murder on the Orient Express". It's an important fund raiser so pIease attend if you can. To purchase tickets CLICK here.

LORNA COOK ON CHEMO@HOME

Lorna  Cook is a Registered Nurse with many years’ experience working in different medical environments. In 2013, she and her business partner Julie Adams, started a company called chemo@home which as it sounds, is a nursing service which administers chemotherapy (and other intravenous infusions) to patients in the patient’s own home. The company has been growing rapidly as patients and their families have embraced the concept and in 2016/2017 the company won
