Noni Walker represents the Willetton Community Garden (WCG) project and by way of background told the Club that WCG is a social group of gardeners both beginners and "green thumbs". It's for anyone whoever wanted to learn how to grow their own herbs, vegetables or fruit trees; or who just wants to socialise with a fun bunch of people It's also for all those with "green thumbs" especially those willing to pass on the "good oil", to others.

The WCG is is being built next to the kitchen garden at Rostrata Primary on Glenmoy Avenue. The site was fenced in 2015 and two sheds were constructed and temporary water storage was installed.

Since then with the funding support from our Club, Lotterywest and the City of Canning it's been possible to purchase rainwater tanks and install solar panels and a solar-powered pump for the reticulation system used to water the raised garden beds. This has in turn allowed tomatoes, capsicum, corn and other vegetables to grow and  flourish.

Some of the beds are communal while others are rented to members.

The next phase is to extend the reticulation system to the front and rear areas of the garden where fruit trees will be planted in autumn. To assist with this President Simon presented a cheque for $2,000 to Noni.
